The European Union plans to simplify the movement of troops

The European Commission (EC) and high representative of the Union for foreign Affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini presented the action plan to improve the mobility of troops in Europe, according to the website of the European Commission.

«Promoting the mobility of troops in EU, we can be more effective in crisis prevention, more effective deployment of our missions and more rapid to respond when there are problems», – said Mogherini.

It is planned that the European external action service and the military headquarters of the EU develop military requirements, which specify the needs of the EU and its member countries, including the infrastructure required to move troops. The EU Council will consider and approve them by mid-2018.

According to the plan, by 2019, the Commission will determine part of the European transport network fit for the passage of military vehicles, and some of the existing infrastructure need to modernize. Will be made a priority list of projects. The Commission will envisage the possibility of their financial support.

The EC will also consider options to simplify the customs formalities during the military operations and assess the need for harmonization of rules of transportation of dangerous military cargo.

The first steps in implementation of this plan will be made in the coming months.
