The European Union has extended for one year sanctions against Syria

The European Union has extended sanctions against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad until 1 June 2017.

«In Brussels they intend to continue the search for a lasting solution to the conflict in Syria», — is spoken in the message.

The EU also plans to «more actively to advocate for a convincing restoration of intra-Syrian talks» under the leadership of UN special envoy on Syria , Staffan de Mistura, during which there must be agreement on the political transition in Syria.

In addition, Brussels will continue to take steps to ensure that the people of Syria, who are in difficult situation, humanitarian assistance.

European sanctions against the Syrian regime was introduced in December 2014. They include, in particular, an oil embargo, restrictions on investment and the freezing of assets of the Central Bank of Syria in the EU.

Also more than 200 individuals and 70 organizations are banned entry to EU countries and their assets in the EU frozen.
