The European Parliament in January will discuss the situation around the constitutional court in Poland

Pan-European debates on the situation in Poland will take place at the January plenary session of the European Parliament.

The relevant decision on 16 December the European Parliament adopted, reports Polish radio.

«During the January plenary session the European Parliament will hold a debate on the situation in Poland», — reports the edition.

Clarifies that the relevant proposal was made by the socialist party and the green party, later backed their position by supporting the liberal forces.

It is expected that during the forum of the European Parliament’s largest faction will discuss the situation around the constitutional court that emerged in Poland.

We will remind, disputes in connection with the judges ‘ constitutional court continues from the end of November, when the Sejm annulled the election of five judges of the constitutional court, held in October in the previous Parliament.

On 2 December, the Polish Parliament elected four new judges and at night in the presence of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda they took the oath.

The opposition expressed indignation at the course of events. On election day, several hundred protested near the poles of the Seimas against the re-election of judges.

On 12 December about 50 thousand demonstrators took part in the mass actions, which began near the building of the constitutional court in Warsaw. They urged the President to respect the Constitution. Polish media have stated that the protests were the largest since 1989.
