The European Council approved the transition to the second phase of negotiations on Brexit

The European Council approved the conclusion of the first and beginning of the second phase of a British exit from the EU. On 15 December, said the press service of the Ministry on the results of the summit in Brussels.

27 countries remaining in the EU, stated that in the first phase there has been significant progress, but the second promises to be even more complex, writes «the Russian BBC service».

At the talks, which will resume in January, will offer a two-year transition period after Brexit and the future trade agreement between Brussels and London.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker expressed hope that agreements will be reached during the second phase, will approve both British and European Parliament.

Prime Minister Theresa may on December 19 shall submit to the government their vision to continue the dialogue.

A referendum on British exit from the EU was held on 23 June 2016. According to the results, 51.9% of Britons voted for the country’s withdrawal from the community of 48.1% – wanted to remain in the EU.

The official procedure of withdrawal of Britain from the EU was launched on 29 March 2017 and will take two years.

19 June 2017 in Brussels began negotiations for a Brexit.

7 Dec completed the first phase of the dialogue. The parties agreed that after the British exit from the EU between Northern Ireland and Ireland will not be rigid boundaries.
