The European Commission has threatened with sanctions countries who do not want to accept refugees

The European Union warned that next month will consider penalties for member States, if they will not accept quotas of asylum seekers who were in Greece and Italy. Reported by Euractiv.

Vice-President of the Commission Frans Timmermans criticized the EU because of Greece and Italy still moved only 12 of thousands of Syrian and other refugees, while it was planned to resettle 160 thousand persons.

He said that Brussels still hopes to persuade the recalcitrant of the country, but would consider sanctions if no progress is made in this matter until the next report of the European Commission in March.

«This is the right time to consider other options if they are needed. The Commission may begin procedures for violation of rules and we will certainly consider this option,» he said.

The EU may be subject to large financial penalties. Timmermans added that «extremely unfair» to leave Greece and Italy alone with the problem of migrants.

Admission of migrants is particularly opposed to the countries of Eastern Europe where there is resistance to Muslim immigration. Hungary and Slovakia even offered to pay a «solidarity» fee instead of having to accept migrants.

Earlier media wrote that the EU plans to Finance the construction of camps in Belarus for refugees from Syria, Russia and Ukraine.
