The EU will provide Turkey three billion on the fight against illegal immigration

European Union countries agreed on a funding agreement with Turkey, which provided three billion euros to improve conditions for the refugees in the country. About it reports a site of the European Commission.

«The European Commission has decided to increase its contribution to 1 billion euros, compared with 500 million euros that were originally proposed in November. Now the EU will be able to quickly provide a significant amount of new financial resources to support Turkey in the fight against the presence of Syrian refugees are under temporary protection and host communities in Turkey,» the statement said.

The geographical position makes Turkey an important transit country for migrants. The country is home to more than 2.5 million asylum-seekers and refugees.

«Turkey is making commendable efforts to provide humanitarian assistance and support a growing number of asylum seekers, and has already spent more than 7 billion euros of its own resources to solving this crisis», — noted in the European Commission.

Germany will pay the highest among other EU members sum — 427,5 million euros, UK — 327,6 million euros, France was 309 million euros, and Italy — almost 225 million euros.

We will remind, in November 2015, the European Union and Turkey adopted a joint plan of action to resolve the situation with the influx of migrants from the Middle East and from Africa.

The EU plans to enter Turkey visa-free regime in October 2016.
