The European Union welcomes the election of the Netherlands for trial on the case about the crash Boeing Malaysian airlines in Donbas 17 July 2014. This is stated in the statement of the EU high representative Federica Mogherini, issued by the press service of the European Council.
«We welcome the steps taken by the countries involved for the effective prosecution and their decision to choose the domestic justice system of the Netherlands as an important step to attract responsible for the Downing of MH17 to justice», – stated in the message.
Mogherini said the investigation team made progress in the investigation of the tragedy.
«Since the work of joint investigative teams in relation to individual suspects continues, it is imperative that investigators could complete their work independently and carefully», – said the diplomat.
She stressed the importance of international support to ensure accountability in the plane crash.

In July 2017, the international investigative team on the case about the crash Boeing in the Donbass (JIT) – Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia agreed to hold the trial, which will be held under the Dutch legislation.
The head of the international Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that the court in the case of the crash of the Malaysian Boeing in the Donbass, which will be held in the Netherlands, would not be legitimate.
