Thanks to the provisional application of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, the EU’s share in foreign trade of our country increased to 41%. This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko at the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Dignity and Freedom in «Mystetsky Arsenal», reports UKRINFORM.
«The agreement (on Association of Ukraine with the EU. — Ed.) already beginning to yield results: the share of European Union in our foreign trade now amounts to 41%,» — said the head of state.
He noted that the EU market is slowly starting to reverse the huge blow to the Ukrainian economy, social sphere and living standards, which caused Russia, in the framework of a hybrid war closing the access of Ukrainian goods to its market and blocking transit to other countries.
At the same time, the President stressed that from the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine in the East and in the Crimea, our government strongly feels the solidarity and strong support of the democratic world, especially the countries «Big seven» and the European Union.
«I am sincerely grateful to leaders of the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Spain for making the decision to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation to stop aggression against Ukraine. I hope that the same approach will be the basis of another decision of the EU Council about the renewal of the sectoral and economic sanctions against the Russian Federation», — said Poroshenko.
Earlier it was reported that exports of goods from Ukraine since the beginning of the year fell 10 times more imports.
We will remind, a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU started on 1 January this year. The export of Ukrainian goods to the European Union in January-July of 2016 increased by 6.7% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 6.5 billion dollars. In late August, Ukraine asked the European Union for additional trade preferences.
