In the European Union believe that Belarus should continue in the framework of the reform of the electoral system.

In the document on the completion of the parliamentary elections in Belarus, it is noted that, according to the preliminary findings of the observation mission OSCE / ODIHR in the Republic were noticeable efforts to address some long-standing problems related to election legislation.

«However, a number of key recommendations of the OSCE / ODIHR and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe remain unfulfilled,» — said in a statement.

According to the EU, this indicates the need for «comprehensive reform of the electoral system in the broader process of democratization in cooperation with international partners».

«We expect the Belarusian authorities to resume work on this issue without delay. It will also be crucial for realizing the full potential of relations between the EU and Belarus,» — said in a statement.

In the European foreign service also noted that the EU, as before, aspires to a stable, democratic and prosperous future of the country for the benefit of the people of Belarus» and will continue its work in this direction.

As reported, the opposition in Belarus has not recognized the elections, stating numerous manipulations and fraud. On the evening of 12 September, the leaders of the opposition called on their supporters to gather at Kastrycnickaja (October square).

It is worth noting that the opposition won a seat in the Belarusian Parliament for the first time in 20 years.
