The Embassy of Australia has extended the term of work in Ukraine

Foreign Minister of Australia Julie Bishop has announced about prolongation of term of work of the interim Australian Embassy in Ukraine. About it reports a press-service Msst Australia.

«The Australian diplomatic presence in Ukraine is in the interests of our country, including contributes to the continuation of close cooperation with Ukraine in matters related to the investigation of the MH17 catastrophe. The Embassy will continue to contribute to the strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations with Ukraine, which is the backbone of nearly 40000 Australians of Ukrainian origin», — said the Minister.

The Embassy was officially opened 20 November 2014 with an initial tenure of 12 months as part of Australia’s efforts to respond to the tragically downed Malaysian airlines plane MH17.

Australia intends to continue cooperation with Ukraine and other members of the joint investigation team on the MH17 disaster (Belgium, Malaysia and the Netherlands) to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Minister Bishop also reaffirmed Australia’s support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine: «I reiterate the unwavering support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Australia continues to monitor the progress of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and calls on both parties to implement the Minsk agreements on ceasefire in full.»

According to Bishop, the Australian government will return to the issue of whether the continuation of the work of the Embassy in the Ukrainian capital in September 2016. Before this time the Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine Douglas Trappett.
