The ECtHR again postponed the claims of Ukraine against Russia for Crimea and Donbass

The European court of human rights has extended the deadline for providing explanations of Russia claims on the annexation of Crimea and aggression in the Donbas until December 31.

About it in interview to «Ukrainian news» said the government Commissioner for the ECHR Boris Babin.

«We think it may not be the last «request» to postpone this issue. Because they have one interest and it is very simple – Russia will try to delay these things until recently. Because they cannot win it in any way. The rulers of Russia might expect to be able to capture the whole Ukraine entirely and to close this issue in international bodies, perhaps even hoping,» he said.

Babin added that Ukraine in turn will insist on the need for urgent interlocutory decisions at least for the initial phase of these cases.

He also said that in addition to the three state lawsuits against Russia still have more than 500 private.

In his opinion, the results of assessment of these cases will be in 2-5 years.

«Individual cases the ECtHR will not delay indefinitely. Just the European court has adjourned to some extent, these cases, because we had hoped that the situation in Ukraine will be resolved…They just now started to understand that this is not some temporary event; it for a long time,» added Babin.

He also explained that Ukraine withdrew the state lawsuit regarding convicted in Russia, the son of the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev Hauser, since this lawsuit was filed, and also individually.

As you know, in April the ECtHR deferred claims of Ukraine against Russia until September 25. During this time, Russia was required to provide an explanation but did not.

On 24 September it was reported that Ukraine withdrew from the European court of human rights the claim about the son of Dzhemilev Hauser.
