The EC will propose to abolish visas for Ukraine despite the referendum in the Netherlands.

The European Commission this month plans to offer the EU to introduce visa-free regime with Ukraine, despite the results of the referendum in the Netherlands. About it reports Reuters, citing an unnamed source, EU leaders, reports «Ukrainian truth».

Poroshenko: the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will not be changed

Earlier in March the Chairman of the EC Jean-Claude Juncker promised to President Petro Poroshenkothat the European Commission in April would put forward proposals on liberalization of visa regime between Ukraine and EU.

«It may look as if we ignore the Dutch voters, but we should keep their word given to Ukraine, which fulfilled the conditions», — said the source.

The EC proposal must be approved by a majority of member countries of the EU and the European Parliament.

According to a source in the EC proposal will contain a form of the guarantee, which allows EU countries to temporarily restore visa in the event of a surge of migration.

At the same time, the EU noted that the annexation of Crimea and fighting with Pro-Russian separatists in the East of the country has led to a massive outflow of population from Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expects that the European Commission will transmit to the EU Council and the European Parliament a legislative proposal on introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainians. He said this on 10 April, in an interview to Ukrainian TV channels, writes UNIAN.

«In the near future, one of these days, I’m waiting for European Commission decision on the transfer of legislative proposals in the European Council and the European Parliament regarding visa-free regime, and I hope that the Ukrainians will receive it», — said Poroshenko.

He recalled that on Friday, April 8, communicated with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, who clearly stated that the Netherlands will support the initiative for granting Ukrainians a visa-free regime.

As reported, on March 17, the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker stressed that the European Commission in April ready to make a proposal on visa liberalization with Ukraine.

On 23 March the head of delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Ian Tombinsky said that the European Council and the European Parliament in the first half of this year will be to review the progress of Ukraine in fulfilling the necessary requirements for visa-free regime between Ukraine and the European Union.

On 8 April, the Deputy head of the presidential Administration Konstantin Eliseev assured that the negative results of the referendum in the Netherlands on the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will not affect the liberalization of the EU visa regime for Ukraine.

Poroshenko: the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU will not be changed

The Association agreement between Ukraine and the EU will not be changed, said Poroshenko.

«We clearly stress that the Association Agreement will not be changed, that the Agreement on Association — it is now applied, including a deep and comprehensive free trade area», — he said.

As reported April 6 in the Netherlands held a consultative referendum on the Agreement on Association of Ukraine with the European Union.

The ballot question was passed: «You «for» or «against» the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU?»

Previously, voted in favor, 38% opposed and 61% of the referendum participants.

On 7 April the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands said it plans together with partners from the EU and Ukraine to seek compromise on the outcome of the consultative referendum on the Association Agreement that will be acceptable to all parties.

Also on 7 April, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that, despite the results of the referendum in the Netherlands, the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will continue to apply on a temporary basis.

Tusk noted that the EU expects the position of the government of the Netherlands, which should decide on further steps after the negative outcome of the referendum.

On 8 April, the representative of Ukraine to the EU Konstantin Eliseev said that the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union regarding the establishment of a free trade zone will be in force in full despite the results of the referendum in the Netherlands. As noted Yeliseyev, Ukraine’s position is that any action related to possible proposals should not in any way touch the contents and the essence of the agreement.
