In Brussels in the cultural centre Bozar are the Days of Ukrainian cinema. The three-day festival began on the evening of 20 January with a screening of the famous Ukrainian film «Earth» Alexander Dovzhenko, UNIAN reports.
The dumb restored film with Ukrainian and English subtitles were shown accompanied by live music played by ethno group «DakhaBrakha». The hall where the screening was held, was crowded, and those who came late had to sit on the floor.
One of the organizers of the festival, the head of the company «Arthouse Traffic» Denis Ivanov explained that the idea to hold in Brussels festivals of Ukrainian cinema «was on the surface».
«Brussels is the capital of the European Union and the office of many international organizations. On the other hand, Ukrainian cinema is on the rise, and there are more films that have a desire to share. These films somehow reflect the reality in which we live in Ukraine. Therefore, the idea to establish this festival, which could demonstrate new Ukrainian films, to communicate with the public, show music, archival things,» — said Ivanov.
According to him, this idea was supported by administration of the cultural centre Bozar. Ivanov recalled that last year the center has already held the Days of Ukrainian cinema, during which was presented a few movies, including film Director Oleg Sentsovillegally held in a Russian prison.
«This year’s festival is called «Border». In the program, mostly documentaries, which studies the physical and mental boundaries. We didn’t have tasks to do outreach festival — we do not consider cinema as propaganda and as a means of an honest conversation with the public», — said Ivanov.
The festival will also feature four new films from Ukraine, noted by the international awards: «Ukrainian women sherifi» («Ukrainian sheriffs») Roman Bondarchuk, «Maupas (Mariupolis») mantas of Kvedaravicius, «GNSO garlic» («the nest of the turtledove») by Taras Tkachenko and «RDN» («Native») by Vitaly Mansky.
Note, in 2017 the film will the films with the participation of Ukrainian musicians Jamala and Jiji: documentary of Anna Akulevich Jamala.UA about the famous singer and «Dzidzio «Bass» – the new Director Lubomir Levitsky («unforgotten Shadows»).
