The court dismissed the appeal of the Prosecutor General and refused to allow the detention of Kaletnik

The Kyiv court of appeals on February 19 refused to allow the Prosecutor General’s office to detain former first Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Igor Kaletnik, reported «Ukrainian news».

The court heard the appeal of the Prosecutor General decided that the prosecution improperly reported about suspicion Kaletnik.

In connection with these circumstances, the court rejected the request of the Prosecutor’s office to grant permission for the detention of Kaletnik.

Kaletnik from 2010 to 2012 headed the State customs service of Ukraine in 2012-2014, was a member of Parliament, where he held the post of first Deputy speaker. In December 2014 declared wanted by the General Prosecutor’s office on suspicion of forged voting for «dictatorial laws» 16 of January 2014, he was accused of suspicion of abuse of power and forgery. According to law enforcement, he’s hiding in Russia from October 2014.

The Prosecutor General’s office petitioned for the arrest of Kaletnik for election of a preventive measure in December 2017, however, the Pechersk district court refused to satisfy the petition. The PGO appealed the decision to the appellate court.
