The constitutional court gave its approval to Russia to pay 1.8 bln Euro to Yukos

The constitutional court ruled that the decision of the European court of human rights on the complaint of the former shareholders of «YUKOS» violate the provisions of the Russian Constitution. It is reported jellyfish with a link to the live broadcast of the meeting on the website of the court.

The court decided that Russia should not implement the decision of the ECHR for compensation of 1.8 billion euros.

At the same time the newspaper reminds that the Ministry of justice of the Russian Federation emphasized: the constitutional court previously upheld the lawfulness recovered from Yukos fines, which are then appealed by the company.

In the summer of 2014, the ECHR upheld complaint of former shareholders of Yukos, who said that the company has suffered material losses due to fines for tax violations retroactively. Penalties were also recognized as disproportionate. Awarded 1.8 billion euros is the sum of the fines and enforcement fee.

In 2015 in Russia was adopted the law on which the constitutional court was entitled to accept the decisions of international courts unenforceable due to their inconsistency with the Russian Constitution.

The case of tax violations against the company «YUKOS» initiated in 2003. After that started the bankruptcy of the company, and its assets sold at auction.

The main part of the assets received by the state company «Rosneft».
