Ukrainian delegation headed by chief of the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko Tuesday, 16 February, in Ankara held talks with chief of Turkey General staff Hulusi Akarom, said the speaker of the Ukrainian General staff Vladislav Seleznev, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».
«The delegation arrived in Ankara the day before. Today was held an official meeting and talks», — he told on Tuesday.
He also noted that the agreement on the Ukrainian delegation’s visit was reached during a meeting of chiefs of General Staff of the armies of the two countries in Brussels last month.
Details of the visit and negotiations Seleznev promised to tell later.
As reported, on 15 February, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu discussed the preparation of the next, fifth meeting of the Strategic Council of high level, to be held in Ankara in March this year.
As previously reported, Ukraine and Turkey agreed to expand military-technical cooperation in several areas. Secretary of Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov during the meeting with the commander of Gendarme forces of the Republic of Turkey by Galip Mandy discussed the prospect of joint military exercises, as well as the importance of sharing experience in combating terrorism. During the talks the parties noted that the security situation in Ukraine and Turkey have many common features and problems.
