The house of representatives of U.S. Congress passed resolution H. Res. 50 call for the immediate release of Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, captured by Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine and illegally detained in a Russian prison since July 2014. The vote was held on September 22, reports UKRINFORM.
«The Resolution H. Res. 50 adopted by universal consent,» reads the official page of the house of representatives of the U.S. Congress.
As noted on this occasion the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly, the resolution condemns the Russian Federation for the illegal detention of Nadiya Savchenko, and calls for her immediate release. In addition, the document calls for the U.S., its European allies and the international community «to aggressively support efforts to release Nadiya Savchenko and other illegally detained».
The draft document was presented by congressmen S. Levin, Kaptur M., M. Fitzpatrick, M. Quigley and B. Pascrell. All the sponsors of the resolution were made by 36 congressmen from Democratic and Republican parties.
Earlier, the U.S. state Department began campaigning for the release of Savchenko.
34-year-old Hope Savchenko fought in the East of Ukraine as part of the volunteer battalion «Aydar» and in June 2014 was captured by Pro-Russian fighters under the city Happiness Lugansk region. After that it was moved to the territory of the Russian Federation.
On July 8 it was discovered in Russia in Voronezh jail. 9 July Savchenko was officially charged with accessory to murder. Savchenko denies all the charges. The Ukrainian side is demanding the release of Savchenko.
In October, Savchenko was elected Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the party «Batkivshchyna», and on November 19 the Central election Commission registered the people’s Deputy of Ukraine.
26 January 2015 Savchenko received diplomatic immunity from the PACE that obliges the Russian Federation to release her from prison.
The security service of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings in respect of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the FSB and the Russian penitentiary service, was illegally detained Savchenko and falsified her case.
The SBU also gave the lawyers pilots proof of innocence to the crime, which accuses the Russian side of the Ukrainian.
We will note, Savchenko in protest several times conducted a long hunger strike.
Russian investigators are fabricating the case, accusing the Ukrainian woman with complicity to murder two Russian journalists and illegal crossing of the border with Russia. She faces 25 years in prison.
