The Ambassador of the United Kingdom of great Britain and Northern Ireland to Ukraine Judith Gough is convinced that the Ministry of defence of Ukraine are interested to fight corruption in the Department.
As the correspondent of the UNIAN, about it she said at a press conference devoted to the beginning of the Second anti-corruption week with the leadership of the defense Ministry of Ukraine.
«I believe, as many of us also said, and it was lit from Transparency International, there is a problem with corruption in the defense sector in Ukraine. But, in my opinion, the fact that we were invited to help fight corruption in the Ministry of defence, demonstrates the willingness to do it,» said Gough.
In this regard, the Ambassador informed that the representatives of Britain cooperate very closely with staff in various departments of the Ministry with the aim of introducing international standards when it comes to strengthening the capacity and training of staff in achieving the priorities that Ukraine itself is installed.
«And I think that the key is the level of strong desires… the President said that Ukraine’s aspiration is to achieve NATO standards until 2020. This means that we are talking about fighting corruption, the adoption of standards of transparency and integrity that will allow the country to move forward and will allow the country to better protect themselves,» said Gough.
She added that, in her opinion, this level of interaction with foreign partners and transparency in the work did not exist a few years, so, in her opinion, there has been great progress in cooperation.
As reported, in October, was created by an Independent anti-corruption Committee on defence (NACO). He intends to develop a strategy for combating corruption in this field for 2017-2018.
