The Bangladesh police dismantled the main suspect in the attack in early July on a cafe in a diplomatic quarter of the capital, Dhaka, which killed 20 people, reports NEWSru.com with reference to Reuters.
The leader of the jihadist group «Jammat-ul-Mujahideen» Nurul Islam Marjan was destroyed during a police RAID along with another fighter.
To date, the Bangladesh security forces tracked down and killed at least 40 militants involved in the attack. Among them, as reported by RIA «Novosti», a canadian citizen of Bangladeshi origin Tamim Ahmed Chaudhry, considered to be one of the organizers of the attack.
Another important suspect in the case about the attack is a former major of the Bangladesh army said Mohamad Zia-ul-Haq, under investigation.
In the evening of July 1, the terrorists attacked a restaurant in the diplomatic quarter of Dhaka, killing 20 hostages, including 17 foreigners (one of the victims had dual citizenship in Bangladesh and United States), as well as two police officers. The next morning, the police carried out the assault, six militants were killed. During the operation, police were able to release 13 people, including one Japanese citizen and two citizens of Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh authorities stated that the attack is Islamic organization «Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen». The group advocates the introduction in the country of Sharia law and declares that it is the terrorist group «Islamic state».
