The defence Ministers of the Baltic States at a meeting in Estonia on Saaremaa island on Monday, 23 may 2016, called for the creation of a visa-free space for the allied troops and armaments in the Baltic States, informs Postimees referring to the press service of the Ministry of defence of Estonia.

«Figuratively speaking, allied tanks should arrive to Estonia without a visa, instead of waiting days at the border until paperwork is processed,» said the Minister of defence of Estonia Hannes Hanso.

The defense Ministers discussed preparations for the July NATO summit in Warsaw, the security situation in the Baltic sea region, support for Georgia and Ukraine, as well as defense cooperation between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

«Our assessment of the security situation in the world coincides, and we are ready to work together to defend our values,» said Hanso. According to him, «our common goal at the NATO summit is to strengthen defence and deterrence, which means the increased presence of the allies in the air, not the earth and the sea».

The defense Ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Hanzo, Raimonds Bergmanis and Juozas Olekas said that «Russia’s behavior raises serious concern and is a challenge to all NATO allies». They also called for open door policy in NATO for Georgia and Ukraine and signed a joint communiqué following the meeting.

As previously reported, due to the continuing Russian-Ukrainian war in the Donbas, and the principled refusal to leave Russia annexed Crimea, NATO throws in the neighboring countries of Russia in North, Central and Eastern Europe for more troops and armored vehicles. In addition, on the Eastern borders of NATO (especially in Estonia) virtually continuously are teaching different types of troops of the Alliance countries.

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda signed amendments to the law on the fundamentals of deployment and movement of troops of foreign States on the territory of Poland. This will enable the group of fast reaction of NATO to enter Poland not only in critical cases but also in times of peace, transfers «RBC-Ukraine».

The law provides that the President of Poland, at the request of the Minister of defence and with prior consent of the Prime Minister, may authorize the presence of foreign troops, mainly NATO and the EU, on the territory of Poland within the framework of strengthening the Polish armed forces in peacetime.

The official permit should specify the purpose of stay and the number of foreign troops, as well as other important for the Polish defense circumstances. At the same time stipulates that depending on the situation, the allied forces will be granted the same powers that has the Polish army.
