The President of Moldova Igor Dodon «does not respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine», so to speak about the contacts between the two countries at the highest level yet. This was at a conference in Chisinau, said the Ambassador of Ukraine in Moldova Ivan Gnatyshyn, the newspaper reports NewsMaker.
«With regard to contacts at the highest level, I cannot imagine such a meeting in a situation when the President of Moldova elected by part of Moldovan society or even the majority of the Moldovan society does not respect the territorial integrity of my country and said that in Ukraine there is a civil war. What kind of understanding and any contacts you can talk?» said Hnatyshyn.
The socialist Igor Dodon won the presidential election in Moldova on November 13, 2016. His inauguration took place on 24 December. He has repeatedly criticized the Association with the European Union and advocated a strategic partnership with Russia. During the election campaign, he also said that Crimea belongs to Russia.
In August 2017 the Moldovan opposition party of «Action and solidarity» appealed to the Prosecutor General of the country, demanding to bring Dodon to trial for treason. The lawsuit States that in violation of the provisions of the Constitution and the oath the President said he «openly promotes the interests» of the Russian Federation.
On September 21, the Parliament of Moldova has begun collecting signatures for a bill on the beginning of procedure of dismissal of the President Igor Dodon.
The party of socialists, in turn, initiates a referendum to strengthen the power of Dodona.
Since taking office, the President said he has never visited Ukraine.
