Slovenia’s Parliament authorized the use of the army to control the flow of migrants

Slovenian Parliament on Monday approved the involvement of the army in order to take control of the situation with arriving migrants, reports NEWSru.com with reference to Agency Reuters.

For the adoption of relevant amendments to the law on the protection of state borders voted 69 deputies, while against — only five.

Prime Minister of Slovenia Miro Tserar stressed that Parliament’s decision does not mean that the country will begin to use anti-migrant military force. It only that the soldiers helped the police to guard the border. According to him, the number of soldiers will vary depending on the scale of the influx of refugees.

Note that the Slovenian government has proposed a law that would allow to use the army to protect the borders, back in October of last year. According to TASS, then MPs had a difference of opinion and changes in the law were not accepted.

Reuters said that since October of last year the Slovenian border crossing 474 thousand migrants. The population of Slovenia is only two million and it is the smallest country on the path of migrants arriving in Austria and other countries of Western Europe.

On 21 January the Slovenian government decided to limit the number of refugees passing through the territory of this country. Now across the border will pass only those who are going to seek asylum in Austria or Germany.
