Serkal said that the Hungarians of Transcarpathia withdrew his concern about the Ukrainian law «On education»

The Hungarian community of Transcarpathia and the Ministry of education of Ukraine could come to an understanding about the language articles of the law «On education». This March 28 in an interview with «Radio HB» said the Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Elena zerkal.

The diplomat said that on 23 March there was a meeting of Minister of education and science of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych with the Hungarian community of Transcarpathia.

«And they’re on his level removed all of the concerns that arose in the Hungarian community. In fact, now at the community level and the Ministry of education already have an understanding of what measures can satisfy the community, how it can be implemented. Community in Transcarpathia have now is not an «irritant» that can be used… of Course, Hungary can use anything. But from my point of view, we were able to build relationships with the community that is now very important. And it can not be the subject of speculation at the level of the EU or NATO,» – said zerkal.

However, she is confident that Hungary will not withdraw my complaint.

«I didn’t expect them to stop provoking all the time to use these levers to continue speculation. But we believe that we need to be constructive, and try to find this structure with the community,» said the Deputy Minister.

After the adoption on 5 September of 2017 on second reading and in General, Ukrainian law «About education», which expanded the use of the Ukrainian language in education, Hungary and several other countries expressed concern about the future of national minorities in Ukraine.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siarto stated that it will block Ukraine’s rapprochement with the EU and NATO, while Kiev will not make changes to the document.

The initiative was sent for examination to the Venice Commission, which formulated the conclusions of 8 December. Kiev has offered to amend the 7th article of non-discrimination training non-state languages that are not official in the European Union. Including it was about teaching in a secondary school in Russian.

The Commission did not insist on changing the articles of the law, but recommended that Ukraine take measures to prevent discrimination of minority languages.

The European Union said that Kiev should take into account recommendations of the Venice Commission.

14 February 2018, the Cabinet sent to the Verkhovna Rada a bill which proposed to extend the transitional period of implementation of the language article of the law «On education».

February 16, Szijjártó insisted that Ukraine should suspend the document and begin negotiations with the Transcarpathian Hungarians.

Grinevich believes that Hungary politicize the situation around the language of article of Ukrainian law.
