The resignation of the former Director of the Federal Bureau of investigation United States James Komi has slowed the investigation of Russian interference in presidential elections in the United States in 2016, said the representative of the intelligence Committee of the U.S. Senate, Democrat mark Warner in the TV channel CNN.
He noted that the Committee would like to move the investigation further and faster, but senators delayed the dismissal of Komi, «which nobody could predict in advance.»
Speaking about the meeting with Donald trump Jr. with the Russians, Warner said that the Committee will ask the participants of this meeting to provide information about all their contacts with Russian citizens.
The Senator added that he believes that the future US President Donald trump knew nothing about the upcoming meeting.
The President of the United States Donald trump fired Komi as Director of the FBI on may 9. «Komi lost the trust of almost everyone in Washington as Republicans and Democrats. When things calm down, they will be thanking me!» – wrote the President on Twitter.
The dismissal of the head of the FBI happened a few days after he testified in the Senate about the progress of the investigation of a possible intervention of Russia in the U.S. presidential election and relations of Russia with the electoral headquarters of the trump.
In October 2016 the United States government officially accused Russia of hacking into the servers of American political parties, and meddling in the presidential election process in the country. In July 2016, the website WikiLeaks published e-mails of members of the National Committee of the Democratic party. In the Kremlin’s accusations of meddling in Russia’s elections in the United States called «nonsense».
July 9, the newspaper the New York Times, citing its own sources wrote that trump Jr. in 2016, met with Russian lawyer Veselnitskaya because she promised to pass the dirt on trump’s opponent in the presidential election of Democrat Hillary Clinton.
On July 11, the son of the President of the United States in his Twitter published correspondence with a PR specialist and former journalist Rob Goldstone, who acted as intermediary in arranging a meeting with Veselnitskaya.
Veselnitskaya, in turn, said that she had dirt on Clinton.
