Schultz: once in the EP proposal for visa-free regime for Ukraine, they immediately consider

European Parliament President Martin Schulz says that the European Parliament without delay, will consider the proposals of the European Commission to provide Ukraine a visa-free regime as soon as they arrive.

Poroshenko expressed hope that the Parliament already next week will support the latest visa laws

He stated this today in Munich to journalists after the meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, which took place on the sidelines of the Munich conference on security, UNIAN reports.

«We expect proposals from the European Commission regarding visa-free regime, and the European Parliament immediately take into consideration,» said Schultz.

The EP President underlined the importance of such a decision.

«One very important reason — the visa-free regime is an element of economic activity. Very often it is considered as an element of free movement, but this is a huge step forward in economic activity on both sides. Therefore, it is also very important for us,» he said.

In addition, he assured «by a great majority of members of the European Parliament that we support the democratic and sustainable economic development in Ukraine».

Schultz also reported that listened very carefully to what the President has said in relation to the Crimean Tatars.

«We, as the European Parliament very seriously to this concern and look what happened there, especially in the field of human rights and security,» said the EP President.

However, according to Schultz, no need to «discuss the cold war, and the need to improve our diplomatic opportunities to avoid confrontation and not to talk about a new cold war».

Poroshenko expressed hope that the Parliament already next week will support the latest visa laws

President Poroshenko hopes that the Verkhovna Rada next week will vote on a package of bills aimed at introduction of visa-free regime with the European Union.

«Yesterday I signed the last legislative package for visa-free regime, and I hope that it will be voted on next week in Parliament, during the session,» he hoped the President.

This Poroshenko is convinced that it «opens the door for procedures concerning the visa-free regime that will be vital for us.»

Schultz also supported the idea «to organize a pressure and support group» to protect the rights of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea.
