Ukraine from 1 to 14 February 2016 imported from the territory of the European countries 600 million cubic meters of natural gas, which corresponds to the supply volume for the same period last year, according to February 15, 2016 the state company «Ukrtransgaz» on its official website.
According to the operator GTS of Ukraine, from the beginning of 2016 with the EU has received 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and since the beginning of the heating season (October 2015) — 3.1 billion cubic meters. Most gas were reported by the Slovak gas corridor, through which from the day of its launch (September 2014) have already been imported to 14.3 billion cubic meters of gas.
In «Ukrtransgaz» reported that starting from November 2015 natural gas from the territory of the Russian Federation for the needs of Ukraine is not receiving already the eightieth day.
«Cover the needs of domestic consumers in natural gas is due to the receipt in the Ukrainian GTS blue fuel to Europe, extractive companies from the underground gas storages», — stated in the message.
«As of this morning, in underground storages of Ukraine remains at 10.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is 1.9 billion cubic meters more than last year. We remind you that the historical minimum was fixed at 6.0 billion cubic meters in the spring of 2013, so now the gas reserves in storages do not give ground for pessimism», — specify gettransparency.
As reported, Ukraine in 2015, reduced imports of natural gas 15.9% (3.1 billion cubic meters) compared to 2014 year – on-year to 16.4 billion cubic meters.
Imports of gas from Russia in 2015 amounted to 6.1 billion cubic meters, which is 2.4 times less than at the end of 2014 (14.5 billion cubic meters).
«Russia thought that will put us on our knees, offered gas at 212 (dollars per thousand cubic meters, while gas from the EU is less than 200 — ed.). I have instructed the Minister’s calling to Russia, says: «No, your gas, we will not take» — said in late January the President Petro Poroshenko.
According to him, Ukraine buys gas in Europe, which cost cheaper than the Russian.
«Today we experienced the first winter without Russian gas», — he added.
The purchase of Russian gas completely stopped the end of November 2015.
Now Ukraine buys European «blue fuel» at the price of 190 U.S. dollars per cubic meter.
According to the Minister of energy and coal industry Volodymyr demchyshyn, the following can also pass the winter without Russian gas.
«This is a real reform and a real step to ensure that Ukraine diversified its supplies of natural gas,» said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
