Russia was deprived of two Olympic medals Sochi 2014

The international Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended for life from participation in competitions under the auspices of 11 Russian athletes. This was reported on the website of the IOC.

Guilty of anti-doping rule violation recognized skaters Ivan Skobrev and Artem Kuznetsov, skiers Nikita Kryukov, Alexander Bessmertnykh and Natalia Matveeva, Lyudmila bobsleigh Dobkin and Maxim Belugin, hockey players Tatiana burina and Anna Shchukina and Luge albert Demchenko and Tatyana Ivanova.

Demchenko and Ivanov, that at the Olympics in Sochi won the silver medal in the mixed relay, was deprived of these awards.

The decision was taken following the investigation of the independent Commission of the IOC under the leadership of Denis Oswald.

In November 2015 World anti-doping Agency (WADA) has published a report which accused the Russian Federation in government support of doping. The report noted that Russian special services were covered systematic doping Russian athletes, admits the «direct intimidation and interference» in the work of the WADA-accredited anti-doping laboratory in Moscow.

Because of the doping scandal, the national team of Russia on athletics was removed from the Olympic games in 2016. Also the Russian team at full strength is not allowed to the summer Paralympics.

24 Nov in the unofficial medal standings at the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia fell from first to third place.

5 Dec 2017 IOC because of the systematic anti-doping rule violations barred from participating in the 2018 Olympics, the national Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation. The IOC Executive Board also suspended for life from any involvement in the Olympics and former sports Minister Vitaly Mutko and his former Deputy Yury Nagornykh.
