Russia received one of the four permits for the construction of «Nord stream — 2» — «Naftogaz»

Russia received only one of the four permits for the construction of the pipeline «Nord stream – 2». About it on air «24 channel» said Director of business development «Naftogaz Ukraine» Yuri Vitrenko.

«Today consent on the construction gave only Germany. The word still remains for Denmark, Finlandia and Sweden. Regarding Denmark, that is a reasonable expectation that it will not give permission. On the other hand, Gazprom has an alternative to circumvent the Danish territory. But the struggle continues», – said Vitrenko.

He added that Ukraine is trying to convince the European Commission of the need for control of the EC over the «Nord stream – 2».

«The Commission received a mandate from the European Parliament, the Council of Europe regarding the possibility to regulate the pipeline. That is, in this case, even if Russia will get permission for construction, but the pipeline will be subject to European regulation, then «Gazprom» can change my mind», – said the representative of «Naftogaz».

The project «Northern stream – 2», headed by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion m3 of gas per year from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea. The existing gas pipeline «Nord stream» consists of two strings with a length of 1224 km with a capacity of 27.5 billion m3 each. Gazprom began deliveries on this gas pipeline in 2012.

In December 2015, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that the project of the second turn of the pipeline «Nord stream» does not correspond to the energy regulations of the EU (Third energy package) and undermining Ukraine’s role as gas transit country.

The authorities of Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Moldova, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Estonia and the Czech Republic called «Nord stream – 2» threat to Europe’s energy security. The German government sees the pipeline «solely as a business project».

The representative of the U.S. Department of State Heather Nauert said that the United States may impose sanctions against companies that collaborate with the project «Northern stream – 2».

Deputy head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland Konrad Szymanski said that Poland intends to discuss with Germany’s refusal from construction of the pipeline «Nord stream – 2» in connection with the poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal, British Salisbury.
