Russia has threatened to withdraw from the WTO in the event of a claim the EU at €1.4 billion per year

If the world trade organization (WTO) will satisfy the claim of the European Union on collecting from Russia of €1.4 billion a year because of the restrictions on the import of pork, Russia may withdraw from the organization. This was announced by Deputy head of the economic Committee of the Council of Federation Sergei Kalashnikov, writes «RIA Novosti».

Kalashnikov expressed the view that the introduction of EU sanctions against Russia and the retaliatory embargo on food supplies from the EU there is no logic.

Member of the Federation Council added that the EU broke WTO rules by imposing sanctions against Russia.

In August 2016, the WTO supported the EU in trade dispute with Russia on the legality of the ban on imports of European pork. The panel of arbitrators of the organization decided that the Russian «anti-sanctions» contrary to the Agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures of the WTO.
