Russia considers Sentsov and Kolchenko its citizens and refuses to give them to Ukraine

«This «citizenship» was forcibly imposed on all residents of the Crimea simultaneously with the annexation of the Crimea. Both of these actions are void under international law», — stated in the message.

Cocks has assured that Ukraine will seek the return of political prisoners through international organizations with influence on Russia, but also in the framework of the claims filed to the European court of human rights.

Sentsov was detained by Russian security services in Crimea in may 2014 on charges of organizing attacks on the Peninsula.

In December 2014 the Prosecutor General of Russia stated that Sentsov is a citizen of the Russian Federation, since after the annexation of the Peninsula, he allegedly expressed the desire to maintain another citizenship. Severo-the Caucasian district military court in Rostov-na-Donu in August 2015 sentenced. to 20 years in a strict regime colony. Kolchenko in the same case, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
