Stalin planned to subdue the Ukrainians, so they could see «how their children are dying» — eyewitness to the Holodomor

The documents that are stored in the Sectoral state archive of the security service, are an important historical source for the study of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. During the Soviet era, they remained inaccessible to scholars and the public.

As noted by the Director of the Archive of the SBU Andriy Kohut, now there is an ongoing search, classification, declassification and publication of documents that illuminate this tragic page of Ukrainian history.

It is recalled that on 7 August 1932 the Central Executive Committee and Council of people’s Commissars of the USSR adopted a decree «About protection of property of state enterprises, collective farms, cooperatives and strengthening public (socialist) property». It «defended» taken from the peasants («socialized») the property of trying to return it and provided for severe punishment – execution or 10 years imprisonment in labor camps. The decree remained in popular memory as the «law of five spikelets» – it is actively used in the course of grain procurement campaigns.

More than 21 thousands of archival criminal cases relating to the repression in 1932-1933 against the people who tried to resist or tell the truth about the famine.

Collection of released documents consists of a representative of documents contained in criminal matters, mostly typewritten indictment.

The defendants in these cases resisting the export of grain, concealment or theft, «counter-revolutionary» campaign against collectivization, excessive taxation and grain procurements, terrorist acts against representatives of Soviet power and activists.

We will remind, last year the E-archive has published a collection of documents about how during the famine of Ukraine massively exported products. Opened in March 2013, Electronic archive of the liberation movement is a joint project of the Center for research on the liberation movement, Lviv national University named after Ivan Franko and the National Museum «Prison on lontskoho».

Today in E-files available copy 23 thousand 839 documents.

Stalin planned to subdue the Ukrainians, so they could see «how their children are dying» — eyewitness to the Holodomor

The witness of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 Nikolay Onishchenko said that during the reign of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin was planned to pacify the Ukrainians so that they can see «how their children are dying».

About this Onishchenko said in a speech during the funeral of events near the National Museum «memorial to victims of Holodomor» in Kyiv, reports UNIAN.

Onishchenko 7 years of age, living in the village in the Zaporozhye region, witnessed the Holodomor. The man said that his grandfather, who had ten children, there was enough of different foods. The witness claims that his grandfather was not a fist, which long before the genocide was pursued by the Soviet government.

«But the inspirer and organizer of the famine in Ukraine was reported to Stalin that there is no other way to pacify the Ukrainians how to organize a hunger. They should see their children die, and they will forget about resistance, and they did,» — said Onishchenko.

The witness said that in the spring of 1933, when the snow melted, he saw the half-dead people who walked the streets, and then his parents forbade him to go to court for fear of cannibalism. Those people were sick and exhausted, and dying in the streets.

«Today they didn’t quit, they is Russia, which organized it. They are today, Donbass two years ago, I know very well what took place there, what was going on for 65 years of life… We, Ukrainians are a peaceful people, not aggressive, and I say — very peaceful. We accept even what cannot be tolerated,» — said Onishchenko.

According to him, in 2014, the Donbass passed the «Russian world».

We will note, today in Ukraine in memory of victims of Holodomor of 1932-1933 after a national moment of silence was held public action «light candle of memory».
