Putin offered to take troops out of South Ossetia in the Russian armed forces

Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the state Duma a bill providing for the admission of certain military units of the unrecognized South Ossetian part of the Russian armed forces. This was reported in the electronic database of the state Duma.

The document is registered and forwarded to the Chairman of the state Duma on 2 December.

The bill proposes to ratify the agreement between Russia and South Ossetia, signed on 31 March 2017.

Under the joining the armed forces is defined as «the reception of citizens on military service under the contract and direction of their military service in the Russian military base in a voluntary order». It needs to be dismissed from the composition of troops in South Ossetia.

8-12 August 2008 between Russia and Georgia was an armed conflict. Russian troops, jointly with South Ossetian forces drove Georgian troops out of South Ossetia, which is officially part of Georgia, temporarily taking the number adjacent to the conflict zone regions of Georgia. Later, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia.

After the conflict, Russia and Georgia ceased diplomatic relations.

South Ossetia, by Georgian legislation – occupied Russian territory. The region declared independence from Tbilisi in the early 90-ies. In the 2000 years of the independence of South Ossetia was recognized by four countries: Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru.
