Putin and Assad are determined to continue «combating terrorism» after the cessation of hostilities in Syria

The Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar Assad announced his intention to continue the fight against terrorism after the cessation of hostilities in Syria on 27 February. About this UNIAN reported in a press-service of the Kremlin on the results of a telephone conversation.

«We discussed various aspects of the Syrian crisis in light of the tasks of the Russian-American statements (as co-chairs of the International support group Syria) on the termination since February 27, 2016 hostilities in Syria. Assad regarded contained in the aforementioned statement of the proposal as an important step towards a political settlement. Confirmed, in particular, the willingness of the Syrian government to facilitate the establishment of the ceasefire», — stated in the document.

Meanwhile, Putin and Assad stressed the importance of continuing the uncompromising fight against ISIS, «Dzhabhat EN-Nusra» and other terrorist groups, which are included in the list of the UN Security Council.

As reported, on February 22, Russia and the United States agreed on the cessation of hostilities in Syria from February 27. The cease-fire will not touch the «Islamic state» and other terrorist groups. Putin announced the decision in a special appeal.
