Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel expressed concern about the intentions of the ruling Romanian coalition to change criminal legislation by government decrees.

About it reported in a press-service of the President of Romania of Colusa Iohannis on his telephone conversation with Angela Merkel, reports «UKRINFORM».

«The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany fully supports the efforts of Romania to eradicate corruption, expressing its concern over possible changes in the criminal law that may adversely affect future efforts to eliminate this dangerous phenomenon,» — said in the message.

Klaus Iohannis and Angela Merkel also discussed preparations for the EU summit, which will take place on 3 February in Malta and the jubilee summit dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome (the anniversary will be celebrated in March this year).

As reported, the Romanian government has prepared two emergency decrees about the pardon and on amendments to the criminal law. In accordance with the documents, are subject to pardon prisoners sentenced to 5 years in prison (but not more), pregnant women, women who stayed at home minor children. Will be sold as a conviction and sentenced to suspended prison terms.

According to the second document, the criminal case of corruption may not be instituted if a government official caused damage to the state does not exceed the sum of 50 thousand euros.
