Poroshenko urged the Parliament to speed up consideration of the candidates for the constitutional Court – Irina Lutsenko

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko urged the Parliament to speed up consideration of nominees to the constitutional Court of Ukraine. On 18 December, during the conciliation Council of the Verkhovna Rada, said the President’s representative in Parliament Iryna Lutsenko, the correspondent of «GORDON».

«The President calls on the Parliament, particularly the relevant Committee, which will consider at its meeting two candidates in the composition of the SIC to speed up the matter and expedite the process of recruitment of judges of KSU», – Lutsenko declared.

He added that currently approved 14 of the 18 candidates for the constitutional Court of Ukraine. Lutsenko also said that on 18 December the Commission under the President will submit two candidates to the constitutional Court of Ukraine.

«I inform you that the President will also make the law on the military court, which is also urgent and is part of the judicial reforms,» – said Lutsenko.

The representative of the President also stressed that Poroshenko asks Parliament rather to withdraw the bill No. 6011 of the anti-corruption courts, to enable them to make their appropriate initiative.

At the special plenary session of the constitutional Court of Ukraine on 12 Dec again failed to elect the President of the court. In accordance with the regulations, the Chairman of the constitutional Court are considered elected the candidate who receives more than half of the constitutional composition of the constitutional court judges. March 19, 2017 expired three-year term of stay on a post of the Chairman of the constitutional court Yury nos, however, as the court noted, he continued to perform his duties as the eldest judge.

On 9 October, the Venice Commission published the full text of the opinion on the Ukrainian draft laws No. 6011, and No. 6529 on the establishment of anticorruption courts in Ukraine. The experts did not support the introduction of an extensive system of anti-corruption of the chambers that were provided for in the bill No. 6529. The Commission also criticized several provisions of bill No. 6011, drawing attention to the inadmissibility of politicization of the appointment process for judges and the need to respect the Constitution during the selection procedure.

Bill No. 6529 currently withdrawn from the Parliament, the procedure for withdrawal of document No. 6011 is not yet completed.

Poroshenko repeatedly stated the need to develop a new draft law on the anticorruption court.
