Poroshenko: Ukraine is ready to take decisive action to free the hostages

Ukraine is determined to expedite the release of hostages held in Russia and in the occupied territories, said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».

«We have serious intentions regarding the speedy liberation of the Ukrainian, Estonian and other hostages who have been held in Russia and in the occupied territories», — he said at a press conference in Tallinn on Monday.

The President expressed regret that the situation with the hostages who have been held in Russia, very serious.

«Unfortunately, the only thing is consolidated actions all over the world, as was the case with Afanasyev, Soloshenko and others, only the joint actions lead to results. We are ready to take decisive and coordinated actions against Ukrainian citizens, including Sushchenko, Sentsov and others, and in respect of citizens of other countries», — said Poroshenko.

He also recalled that a few weeks ago, Ukraine unilaterally freed 15 people and, therefore, wait for a response from the Russian Federation.

«Unfortunately, the Russian side, we didn’t, and we emphasize that we have serious intentions to continue this fight,» — concluded the head of the Ukrainian state.

We will note, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko raised the issue of the release of the hostages as a priority at the meetings in Davos. This was announced by first Vice-speaker Irina Gerashchenko. According to her, there is no such international meeting, where the President did not raise the issue of the hostages and those in Russia and those in the occupied territories.
