Switzerland is ready to provide the citizens of Ukraine visa-free regime immediately after a similar move by the European Union.
On Tuesday 17 January said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Davos, following talks with President of the Swiss Confederation , Doris Leuthard, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».
«You know what we expect in the near future the decision of the European Parliament on visa-free regime. And it was clearly stated that as soon as Ukraine will receive visa-free travel to Schengen countries, Switzerland also can provide a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens», — said the head Ukrainian state.
Earlier today Poroshenko said that Switzerland until the end of January this year, will give 100 million dollars in the first tranche of financial assistance to Ukraine.
Recall, 15 December 2016, the European Council supported bezviz for the citizens of Georgia and Ukraine in April of the new year. It soon became known to postpone the consideration bezveza for Ukraine for the new date, although officially this information to the EU denied.
On the same day, EU leaders, despite the opposition of a number of States agreed with the Netherlands-initiated proposals regarding the conditions to completion of the ratification in the country of the Association Agreement EU-Ukraine.
According to the proposals on the Dutch side, the Association agreement with Ukraine is not a stage on the path to EU membership now or in the future, does not include a guarantee of collective security, does not lead to any form of mandatory military cooperation and does not allow Ukrainians to work in the EU. Also, Ukraine will not receive additional funding and must do everything in its power to combat corruption.
