The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during the meeting with representatives of public organizations signed a Decree «On promoting the development of civil society».
As noted in the press service of the head of state, Poroshenko thanked the public for participating in the preparation of the draft National strategy of promoting the development of civil society.
The President stressed that «the Revolution of Dignity gave new opportunities for the development of civil society and deepening democracy in Ukraine.» In particular, the head of state noted the contribution of the volunteer movement in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the reform of the Ministry of defence, as well as active participation in the European integration processes of the country and contribute to the improvement of Ukrainians ‘ attitudes towards the Euro and Euro-Atlantic integration.
«Regarding the European integration processes, as well as concerning the safety and defence of the state, the role of civil society top priority», — said Poroshenko.
Separately, the President noted the public participation in reforming the country. «It is extremely important, and perhaps the most important after national security and defense sector reforms including anti-corruption laws. Like someone out of power or don’t like the way they (members of the public), they are criticised, but we have in a democracy to learn to interact, to build confidence both within the country and to demonstrate externally that we are working as a unified team,» said the head of state.
In particular, according to Poroshenko, it is critically important participation in the competitive commissions on selection of candidates to anti-corruption bodies in order to ensure that the new institutions more transparent and independent.
Poroshenko added that he was disappointed in the delays in the process of establishing a National Agency on corruption prevention, as it is actually a single outstanding institutional issue for the obligations of Ukraine under the visa-free regime.
The President also urged the public to support and demonstrate an active position regarding the Constitutional changes, in terms of judicial reform.
«In the preparation of the draft National strategy of promoting the development of civil society was attended by over 700 representatives of civil society organizations, state authorities and local self-government, leading Ukrainian analytical centers», — said the press service.
