The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko February 2, received the delegation of heads of parliaments of Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, which is in Ukraine with a total working visit. About it reports a press-service of the President.
Poroshenko informed the heads of Parliament about the situation in the Donbas. It was noted that the Russia-supported militants continue to ignore all obligations in the framework of the Minsk agreements. The head of state stressed the need to continue sanctions against the country-aggressor to stop the aggression.
«Only the coordination of our actions, only concentrated pressure and sanctions can influence Russia. It is very important to be completely transparent mechanism of sanctions, because it is not a question of what we want to punish someone or to achieve some economic objectives. This is the motivation of Russia to stop the aggression», — said the President noting the importance of stabilizing the situation and deployment of the international presence in the Donbas.
Poroshenko also drew attention to the questions the release of hostages and illegally detained in Russia Ukrainian citizens Nadiya Savchenko, Oleg Sentsov and other. The President stressed that Savchenko — MP and PACE delegate from Ukraine, for over 1.5 years unnecessarily contains in the Russian prison.
The parties also devoted considerable attention to the issue of de-occupation of Crimea. The head of state noted that Ukraine cooperates with the Council of Europe on this issue — formed a new Commission that will visit the place where Russia violates the rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars. In addition, the President cited numerous facts of human rights violations in Crimea and called on the parliaments of the Nordic countries and Baltic States should keep the matter under scrutiny.
The President thanked the parliamentary leaders for their firm stand on support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Speakers noted the efforts of Ukraine in the context of the implementation of a comprehensive reform plan. Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden assured that their capitals in support of Ukraine — one of the indisputable priorities, including in the framework of NB-8.
The heads of the parliaments of North European and Baltic States welcomed the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of justice.
The representative of the Republic of Latvia stressed that Latvia holds the presidency this year among the heads of parliaments of Nordic and Baltic countries, known as NB8 and wants to provide great assistance to Ukraine, therefore they want to understand what can help. She also noted that her starana understands the difficulties in the implementation of reforms and recalled that last Friday, the Parliament of Latvia has published a statement that Latvia does not support the «Nord stream — 2».
Earlier it was reported that the Baltic countries will help Ukraine implement the «electronic Parliament».
