The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko emphasized the necessity of bringing the service under the contract in Armed forces demobilized soldiers, trained and having experience of participation in hostilities.
As reported in the press service of the President, he said this at a meeting with commanders of brigades, fighting the officers with the participation of the Minister of defence Stepan Poltorak and the chief of the General staff of Ukrainian armed forces Viktor Muzhenko to increase the efficiency of the army.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President noted that now held a fundamental reform of the sector of defence and security.
«Now we change the structure, all technologies and approaches to ensure the defence security of the state and full transition of the Ukrainian army to NATO standards,» he said.
Poroshenko noted that he initiated a meeting with military officers who have experience in ATO, precisely because they, like anyone else, know all the realities of military service, problems and what steps need to be taken for further development of the army.
«In your example have to learn generation of the Ukrainian military personnel protecting the Homeland, and your opinion is honest, calm and impartial about what we need to do in order to improve our Armed forces, increase their effectiveness — for me it will be very important,» the President said.
The meeting discussed the service contract. In particular, the head of state enquired about the condition of cash security personnel.
Earlier, the President stressed that in the future, the formation of the Ukrainian troops should take place primarily on contractual basis.
In turn, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated that one of the priorities and goals of the Cabinet in 2016 is the transition of the Armed forces of Ukraine to contract form of service and factual integration of the Ukrainian army in NATO. «We actually go to a contract army and the Ukrainian Armed forces, de facto, should become members of NATO, they must fully meet the standards and criteria of the North Atlantic Alliance», — said the Prime Minister during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on February 11, listing objectives, which sets itself the government in 2016.
We will remind, in November the Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak has approved a plan for the transition of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to NATO standards.
