The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in connection with the International day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust indicates that the recurrence of such crimes in the future.
«On January 27, the world honors the international day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust, established by decision of the UN General Assembly on 1 November 2005. (…) Today already the few witnesses to tell us about those terrible events, and the silent slopes and memorials Babi Yar, the other the resting places of victims of Nazism carry the memory of those killed in a century. This is our common pain… Keeping the memory of the Holocaust, we strongly affirm the inadmissibility of repetition of such crimes in future», — reads the statement of the head of state in connection with the International day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust.
Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine, which lost tens of millions of its sons and daughters of different nationalities as a result of the crimes of totalitarianism, is now opposed to the Russian aggression, defending the borders of the democratic world.
«We call on all free Nations to prevent the revival of totalitarian empires, ideologies, and practices that give rise to crimes against humanity,» the President said.
In a statement the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that about 1.5 million Ukrainian Jews were killed by Nazis on the territory of Ukraine during the Second world war.
«We urge the international community to join efforts to prevent any manifestations of anti-Semitism and intolerance on racial or ethnic grounds, to cultivate in future generations the fundamental rights and freedoms of the person», — reads the statement of the foreign Ministry.

The victims of the Holocaust remembered every year on 27 January. This date was set by the UN General Assembly. On January 27, 1945 Soviet troops liberated the complex of Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau near the Polish town of Oswiecim.
The camp was liberated by the soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian front, with the support of the 4th Ukrainian front. In the battles with the guards of Auschwitz, which was about 6,000 people, killed about 300 Soviet soldiers.
By the beginning of the Second world war in Europe lived 9 million Jews. In 1950, there remained 3.5 million. In Poland, the Baltic States and in Germany during the years of the Holocaust were killed up to 90% of the Jews.
Jerusalem centre «Yad Vashem» counted nearly 25,000 people who rescued Jews in the occupied territories. The most famous of them thanks to the movie — Oskar Schindler, who saved more than 1,200 people. Often for the salvation of the Jews by the occupying power were punished with execution.
The Holocaust ended with the surrender of Germany in may 1945 and in November 1947 the UN adopted a decision to establish the Jewish state of Israel. After a year there were 800 thousand people. Over the next 5 years, the population of Israel increased 5 times.
