Poroshenko: I’m not going to participate in parliamentary elections

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during press conference that he is not going to participate in parliamentary elections, the correspondent of the Internet edition «GORDON».

«Another sensational news: I’m not going to take part in the parliamentary elections,» he said.

Poroshenko added that the issue of political alliances is extremely important for coordination, including within the current coalition, the strengthening of relations between the government and the coalition and increase the effectiveness of both the Parliament and the coalition.

«But I have one ally – the Ukrainian people. Political parties… I am very grateful to them, I support them, but today it’s not on my agenda. Most likely, I will not be a nominee of political parties, although I do not exclude that if the decision is taken, to ask for support – it will be another matter,» he said.

The next elections of Parliament and President of Ukraine should take place in 2019.

The publication «Commander in chief» has informed today that in the night of 27 February meeting of the «strategic seven» signed «conceptual agreement» which the parties distributed the quotas in the party list of the new political force. According to the newspaper, a conditional coalition, consisting of the President Poroshenko, Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko and Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, leaves 50% of the potential party list, the leaders of the «popular front» Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Arsen Avakov – 30%, Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman – 20%. Supposedly it is envisaged that the overall political team will work not only in presidential but also parliamentary elections.
