President Petro Poroshenko assured that the promotion and protection of the rights of man and of the citizen will always remain the absolute priority of the Ukrainian authorities. This is stated in the address of the President to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the International day of human rights.
«Today, Ukraine, along with all free Nations of the world celebrates the international day of human rights. On this day 68 years ago by the UN General Assembly adopted the universal Declaration of human rights, which became a symbol of faith and hope of millions of people to a decent life, a better future and a fair and just world,» — said Poroshenko.
In his words, «the rights of man and citizen in Ukraine is one of the most important social values. So the Main Law of our state has incorporated the fundamental provisions of this Declaration.»
At the same time, as noted Poroshenko, in the conditions of Russian aggression against Ukraine the problem of protecting the rights and freedoms of man is particularly acute. In this issue, our government supports the entire civilized world.
In particular, as the President pointed out recently during a vote at a meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on «the Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city (Ukraine).»
The head of state expressed hope that the UN General Assembly will support this document and condemn human rights violations, discriminatory measures and practices by the Russian occupation authorities against the inhabitants of the annexed Crimea, including the Crimean Tatars, but also Ukrainians and persons belonging to other ethnic and religious groups.
According to Poroshenko, Ukraine is making every effort to Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, which are wrongly thrown in jail, returned to his native land.
He expressed gratitude to the international partners, particularly the European Union who support Ukraine regarding the requirements of the Russian Federation for the speedy liberation of the Ukrainian hostages, contained in the occupied territories and in Russian prisons.
«As President of Ukraine and then I will do everything possible to the fundamental rights of our citizens to freedom was fully protected,» he promised.
