Poroshenko hopes for strengthening of sanctions in case of escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation

President Petro Poroshenko hopes that the EU will continue sanctions against Russia, and in the case of escalation — and even strengthen them. This is stated in his statement released on the evening of 1 September.

«A further 37 individuals and companies involved in the Russian aggression against Ukraine and occupation of Crimea under sanctions. Am sincerely grateful to our American partners for this important step of solidarity with Ukraine,» — responded to Poroshenko to the US decision to expand sanctions against Russia.

According to the head of state, Russia as a state aggressor needs to feel the price «for gross violation of international law — the occupation of foreign territory, the deployment of the hybrid war in the heart of Europe and the murder of thousands of innocent people».

«I hope that our partners, primarily the European Union, will support the logic of sectoral sanctions against Russia will be continued, and in the case of escalation strengthened,» — said Poroshenko.

Recall, the ambassadors of the European Union are preparing next week to take a decision on the extension of visa restrictions and the freezing of accounts against 146 individuals and 37 companies that, according to the EU responsible for violations of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
