President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law «On ratification of the Agreement between the government of Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization status of the Representation of NATO in Ukraine».
The document was signed on 22 September 2015 during his visit to Ukraine the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg, announced the press service of the head of state.
The Agreement provides for the establishment of the NATO Mission in Ukraine, which will consist of the NATO liaison Office and the Center for information and documentation of the Alliance. A new diplomatic institution and its staff will receive the privileges, immunities and assistance provided to diplomatic missions under the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations of 1961.
«Also, according to the Agreement, provides for exemption from taxes, customs duties and other charges, quantitative restrictions in the framework of the projects implemented in Ukraine through financing NATO (in particular, it will apply the import and export of goods, contracts for the purchase of goods and services for projects under trust funds, scientific, educational and other programs)», — stated in the message.
The press service stressed that the NATO Mission will contribute to strengthening and increasing the participation of Ukraine in all forms of cooperation agreed between Ukraine and the Alliance, including providing Advisory assistance.
Recall, September 22, 2015 the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg signed an Agreement on the status of the representative office of NATO in Ukraine. The document should be ratified the Supreme Rada of Ukraine.
On 4 February the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law «On ratification of the Agreement between the government of Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization status of the Representation of NATO in Ukraine» (No. 0082).
