Poroshenko has asked Finland to put pressure on Russia

The President of Ukraine urged the President of Finland to put pressure on Russia in the issue of the release of the detained Ukrainians and not to support Russian project of the TRANS-Baltic gas pipeline «Nord stream-2». About this Poroshenko said at a joint with a colleague Sauli Niinistö press conference in Helsinki, writes «Ukrainian truth».

Poroshenko sees no reason to change the US position on sanctions against Russia

Poroshenko noted that this is the first in 11 years official visit of the President of Ukraine in Helsinki, although he personally it is the 11th meeting with the President of Finland. And Ukraine is the first pays a visit to the 100-th anniversary of independent Finland.

The Ukrainian leader said that Ukraine opposes external aggression.

«Mr. President, you can’t imagine the extent of the historical figure of Mannerheim popular in Ukraine and is a model of service to the Motherland. You know better than most of Ukraine. And extremely important is the understanding in the conditions of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine», – said Poroshenko.

He thanked Niinisto for the support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and also for the fact that Finland is in the position to maintain sanctions against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements her.

According to the President, Ukraine is not getting the best experience, but it can be useful to Europeans.

«We discussed the gross human rights violation in Donbas and Crimea – and I appealed to Mr. President to increase pressure on the Russian side in the issue of releasing Ukrainian hostages from the occupied territory and from Russian prisons», – said the Ukrainian leader.

Poroshenko thanked Finland for the assistance of the OSCE monitoring mission, assistance to internally displaced persons and support to mine action in Ukraine. Also, the Ukrainian President thanked Helsinki for the support of the Association agreement between Ukraine and the EU for technical assistance.

«We agreed to intensify the intergovernmental mixed Commission on trade and economic development. And agreed that we will adopt in Ukraine with the visit of the business mission of Team Finland,» – said Poroshenko.

On 24 January the government of Ukraine and Finland signed a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative fuels. Poroshenko considers it a symbol of effective cooperation.

«We rely on the principled position of Finland relative to the project «Northern stream-2″. The so-called commercial attractiveness of the project carries a number of political risks», – said the President of Ukraine.

He confirmed the interest in cooperation in the military sphere, thanked Finland for contribution to the development of military medicine and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian military.

Niinistö expressed readiness to help in the framework of the Minsk agreements and to support positive changes in Ukraine. Sanctions for Russia should be maintained until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, padernal the President of Finland.

Poroshenko invited him to visit Ukraine in 2017.

Poroshenko sees no reason to change the US position on sanctions against Russia

Reason for change of attitudes over the past years, the United States of America (USA) regarding imposed against Russian Federation for annexation of Crimea and aggression against Ukraine sanctions, is not convinced Petro Poroshenko, writes Interfax-Ukraine.

«Ukraine has received very strong bipartisan support from the US for the past three years and sees no reason to change the situation», — said Poroshenko.

The President also noted that he is encouraged by the speeches of the candidates on key posts in the government of the United States.

«We have the first information from the Senate hearing that the leading candidates and the positions they demonstrate that these positions are fairly encouraging», he said.

The Ukrainian head of state expressed his conviction that the US interests to preserve the values that created this country over 200 years ago.

«These interests and values – freedom and democracy. And these values support the Ukraine freedom and democracy,» said Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine is now fighting for these values, for the right to be free and independent.

President Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine will be glad, if Russia complies with the Minsk agreement, thanks to which sanctions against it be lifted.

«We will be glad, if sanctions from the US and the EU will be reduced if Russia will fulfill all obligations under the Minsk agreements. But Russia is the aggressor, Russia has occupied Ukrainian sovereign territory and annexed the Crimea, blatantly violating international law,» — said the President.

Poroshenko also reminded that violence continues in the Donbas and in December Ukraine has lost 22 of its warrior.

«And for all the aggression — more than 2.5 thousand military were killed and more than 7.5 thousand civilians were killed in result of Russian aggression. In this situation the only effective tool are the sanctions that motivated the Russian Federation and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table and to implement the Minsk agreement», — said the Ukrainian President.

Not only Ukraine but also European countries and the USA are targets of cyber attacks by Russia — is an element of a hybrid war, said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

«Russia makes a cyber attack not only against Ukraine, and it was confirmed. We have a very strong libertreserve, and therefore Ukraine can counterattack. But Ukraine is not the only target of cyber attacks: all European countries and the United States — the objects of cyberattacks, and this is an element of a hybrid war,» — said Poroshenko, answering the question about how Ukraine is opposed to cyberattacks.

The Ukrainian head of state stressed: «We must be ready for such challenges, because after the illegal annexation of Crimea, the whole world’s security has changed: it was based on the UN Charter, and one of the members of the UN violate these laws. So we have to come up with a new structure and new principles of global security.»

Poroshenko also added that this issue, among others, were discussed at the meeting with Niinistö.
