Poroshenko has approved the ratification of the Paris agreement

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law On ratification of the Paris agreement», adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on July 14. About it reported in a press-service of the head of state.

The Paris agreement was signed on 12 December 2015 at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN framework Convention on climate change. On behalf of Ukraine the document was signed on 22 April 2016 in new York. The agreement has already been signed by 177 countries and the European Union.

The Paris agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol. The agreement is aimed at accelerating the implementation of the provisions of the UN framework Convention on climate change, and its purpose — the strengthening of the global response to the threat of climate change in the context of sustainable development and efforts to overcome poverty.

The Paris agreement establishes a framework of the international climate change regime, whereas the mechanisms, procedures and other practical issues to ensure cooperation in the framework of the Agreement should be developed over the next four years and approved at the first session of the working body of the Agreement of the Conference of the parties meeting of the Parties to the Paris agreement.

The Paris agreement will enter into force when at least 55 Parties to the framework Convention, which accounted for at least 55% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions, have deposited their instruments of ratification, instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession. To date, ratified the Agreement on 19 countries, which accounted in aggregate 0,18% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions.
