Poroshenko has appointed 113 of the judges of the new Supreme Court

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has appointed 113 of the judges of the new Supreme Court. The corresponding decree of the head of state announced on 11 November, the Deputy head of the presidential Administration Oleksiy Filatov, the correspondent of «GORDON».

The ceremony of taking the oath of the judges was held in the Klovsky Palace in Kiev.

At the beginning of the ceremony set off the soundtrack of the anthem of Ukraine, and Poroshenko began to sing it a Capella. He was joined by all present.

Filatov then read out the names of the judges who take the oath.

The President called on 11 November, the birthday of the new Supreme Court and updated judicial system in Ukraine.

«Have to determine first the 120 winners of the competition, and then made a submission in my name on the appointment 113 of them by the judges of the new Supreme Court», – said the President.

He also added that for the first time in the history of Ukraine in the appointment of judges was eliminated the political factor.

27 July 2017, the High qualification Commission of judges determined the winners for the 120 posts of judges of the new Supreme Court.

The participants received vocational and psychological tests, examination of the National anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine, the National Agency for prevention of corruption and Public integrity Council.

July 31, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine said that the integrity of some of the winners of the contest in doubt. The head of the Department of justice and legal cooperation of the Council of Europe Hannah Juncker praised the competition.

On 29 September the High Council of justice recommended that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko 111 candidates for appointment to the post of judges of the Supreme Court.

Public Council of integrity, who oversaw the contest, urged Poroshenko not to approve nominations prior to the completion of judicial review of possible violations in the selection. According to the findings of the Board, 25 of the 111 candidates do not meet the criteria of professional ethics.

Higher qualification Commission has called the appeal «an abuse of power».
