President Petro Poroshenko met with the foreign Ministers of France and Germany , Jean-Marc Ayrault and Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The President congratulated Jean-Marc Ayrault with his appointment to the post of foreign Minister of France and expressed his satisfaction that his first foreign visit he made to Ukraine, reports the press service of the President.

The interlocutors discussed the situation in Eastern Ukraine and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. President Poroshenko expressed concern about numerous violations of the ceasefire regime by Russia-controlled fighters, as well as the use of prohibited weapons. The interlocutors noted the need for political will from the Russian side to cease fire.

The President of Ukraine stressed the importance of tolerance of observers of the OSCE special monitoring mission to all parts of the occupied territories, including in the Russian-Ukrainian border. Petro Poroshenko noted the importance of the release of all hostages, including those illegally held in Russia.

The interlocutors discussed the possibility of placing in the Donbass international mission security as an important condition of preparation for the holding of local elections in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and on the basis of the principles of the OSCE.

Petro Poroshenko noted the importance of maintaining sanctions against the Russian Federation to fulfil the Minsk agreements.

The parties have coordinated further actions on the eve of the meeting of foreign Ministers «Channel four», which will be held in Paris on 3 March.

The President appreciated the assistance from the EU in the implementation of reforms in Ukraine.

German foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the meeting «Norman Quartet» at the level of foreign Ministers in Paris on 3 March will be key, which will be attested to some success. He said this during the meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Minister of foreign Affairs of France Jean-Marc Ero.

«We cooperate for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, and there is now reason to be pleased with the progress we have achieved in 12 months. But on the other hand, we see no other alternative to the implementation of these agreements,» said Steinmeier.

«We are now making progress at the Ministerial level, we are meeting in Paris on 3 March. It will, I think, decisive key meeting where we can remind them that some successes have already been achieved in terms of confidence to our peace process,» stressed the foreign Minister of Germany.

Yatsenyuk,in his turn, noted that the EU has always supported the Ukrainian people in difficult times, especially in Germany and France for the last time.

«We believe that only by preserving our unity, we will be able to resist Russian aggression,» — said the head of Ukrainian government.

He also said that Ukraine hopes for a positive EU decision on visa-free regime.

As reported, last time the foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia held a meeting on 13 February in Munich.

Then the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the talks achieved no concrete results because they were «preparatory to carrying out a full-length». In particular, he explained that the negotiations were «preparatory» because of the lack of an incumbent Minister for foreign Affairs (foreign Minister France Laurent Fabius before it resigned).
