Poroshenko discussed with Merkel the liberation of the Ukrainian hostages, the escalation in the Donbas, the RF output of the SCCC and the anti-corruption court

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a telephone conversation on Friday stressed the importance of initiatives that will help to release Ukrainian hostages held by militants in the Donbas before the Christmas holidays. This was reported by the press service Poroshenko.

«The sides expressed serious concern at the escalation of the Russia-backed militants the situation in the Donbass, in particular, a growing number of attacks on both military positions and civilian settlements», – stated in the message.

Merkel and Poroshenko supported the truce from December 23 agreed upon by the trilateral contact group in Minsk.

According to the presidential Administration of Ukraine, the leaders expressed «regret» about the decision of Russia to withdraw its officers from the Joint center for control and coordination of questions of ceasefire and stabilization of the demarcation line in the Donbas. They discussed steps to restore full operation of the SCCC.

Poroshenko also briefed Merkel on the unblocking of the process of creating an anti-corruption court in Ukraine.
